Olive Garden Breadsticks (Homemade)

Prep time: 3 1/2 hours.

Cooking time: Approximately 12 minutes

Makes 12-13 breadsticks

Ingredients:
2 Tablespoons granulated sugar
3/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
1 cup plus 1 Tablespoon warm water (105 to 115 degrees Fahrenheit)
3 cups bread flour
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1/4 cup butter, softened

Topping:
2 Tablespoons butter, melted
1/2 teaspoon garlic salt

Directions:
Dissolve sugar and yeast in warm water in small bowl or measuring cup. Let sit for 5 minutes or until it becomes foamy on top. Combine flour and salt in a large bowl. Use paddle attachment on a stand mixer to mix softened butter into flour (or use a mixing spoon to do so). Pour foamy yeast mixture into flour mixture and use dough hook to combine and knead dough for approximately 10 minutes (or combine remaining ingredients and knead dough by hand on a counter top for 10 minutes). Place dough in covered container and let sit in a warm location for 1 to 1 1/2 hours until doubled in size.
Measure out 2 oz. portions and roll out dough between hands or counter top to form sticks about 7 inches long. Place dough on parchment paper-lined baking sheets. Cover and set in warm location for 1 to 1 1/2 hours until doubled in size. Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Bake 12 minutes or until golden. As soon as the breadsticks come out of the oven, brush melted butter on each breadstick and sprinkle with garlic salt.
